Our Favorite Things
Our Favorite Restaurants
One of our favorite spots (and where we had one of our first dates!). Giuseppe’s is amazing Italian featuring pastas and pizzas. They do not take reservations but we love to put our name in and grab a drink at the bar or walk around downtown SLO!
An upscale Mexican restaurant that has great margaritas, a fun atmosphere, and delicious food. With a menu that ranges from sizzling fajitas to all combinations of tacos, there’s something for everyone! Don’t forget to have a few margs too!
Located in Arroyo Grande (just 15 minutes south of SLO), this is one of Anna’s family’s favorite restaurants. Everything is wood-fired, locally sourced, and delicious. You must try the Toasted Marshmallow dessert!!
Dan’s family’s favorite local spot! With a casual atmosphere, Milestone has great bites and a wide beer selection. You can’t go wrong with a burger or a pizza, this classic American eatery has it all!
In the heart of downtown SLO, Flour House makes some of the best pizza Napoletana style and house-made pastas. If you’re around on a Monday, they have “Meter Monday” where you can share a 1/2 meter or meter long pizza!
If you’re looking for a fast and casual eatery, you must come to Petra! Known for their Mediterranean food, they have delicious grilled meat plates as well as some unique pizza creations.
High Street Deli or Lincoln Deli
The battle of the best sandwich! Both delis are amazing and we can’t recommend either enough, you MUST stop for a sandwich while you’re in the area. Anna’s go to is the Dutch Punch at High Street and Dan’s favorite is the Mile High Club at Lincoln.
A SLO classic! You can never go wrong with a tri-tip or pulled pork sandwich and a basket of fries. Dan and I love to get the tri-tip sandwich (a SLO specitality), a firestone salad, and a few sides of the best ranch.
Our absolute favorite coffee shop! When we’re in town, Anna makes sure to go at least once a day for a latte, pastry or milkshake and Dan picks up a bag of their espresso beans. There’s three locations so make sure to hit one for the best coffee and pastries!
Open 24/7, SLODOCO (SLO Donut Co) is a staple. They have unique and fun flavors so they have options for every taste. Just down the street from Dan’s parent’s house, we go every time we’re in town.

Activities
Wine Tasting
California’s Central Coast is home to some of the best wineries! Our personal favorites to taste at are: Daou, Justin, Chamisal, and Booker. If wine isn’t your thing, there’s plenty of breweries in the area too!
Beach
With the beach only 10 minutes away from SLO, it’s tough not to drive to the coast while you’re here. Avila Beach is our favorite (and where Dan was a lifeguard for a few summers).
Hiking & Biking
SLO is surrounded by many trails for hiking or mountain biking. A few of our favorite hikes are: Bishop’s Peak, Bob Jones Trail, Madonna, the P, and Terrace Hill. It’s a great way to see the sunset too!
Water Activities
Not only can you spend a day at the beach, but you can spend a day on the water! There’s kayaking in Morro Bay (and a ton of cute otters!), surfing at the beach, fishing, and even boat tours.
Farmers’ Market
Every Thursday night, Downtown SLO transforms into the Farmer’s Market! The entire main road is filled with amazing food, music and so much fun.
Attractions
There is so much to see in the Central Coast! A few of our favorite spots are: the Madonna Inn (pictured below), The Mission, and Cal Poly’s campus. For a day trip, check out Hearst Castle and the sea lions.
